Why You Need Me On Your Team

I am that “pop” of color in an otherwise monotonous outfit (the bright pink shirt work with your all gray suit, if you will). I’m what makes the look more fun and complete. I’m who you need on your team, to add a “pop” of color, complete with fresh ideas and a very interesting perspective. I’m that new flavor that makes your typical day-to-day that much more exciting!! Because, life is better with color and we all need a little color in our lives…

DJ Jay iL puts together another masterpiece that truly depicts the emotions we go through in love, this time focusing on “The Make-Up”

CHICAGO, IL (February 14, 2012) – Love is in the air, literally, as today is February 14th, Valentine’s day, and no better day for the release of “Love Is” :: The Make-Up, the third installment in the “Love Is” mixtape series by Jay iL. The series kicked off with the “Love Is” :: Valentine’s Day, followed up by “Love Is” :: The Break-Up. Bio Writing Sample - DJ Jay iL

From emcee to b boy, Jay iLLa has dabbled in many facets of hip-hop before realizing that his true calling is on the decks.  A product of the Chicago underground hip-hop scene, he was dubbed iLLaNOise by Chicago legend Twilite Tone during his emcee days, eventually settling on the moniker Jay iLLa once he gave up the mic for the turntables. After his participation in the Red Bull USA International 3Style Competition, he reinvented himself, now going by the name Jay iL. Motivated by his love of hip-hop, Jay is “The Illest DJ You’ve Never Heard,” citing Kid Capri and Twilite Tone as two of his biggest influences.

Shifting his focus to the art of being a DJ, Jay honed his skills at K’s Music, a local hangout located at 47th and Park in Chicago.  Coming from humble beginnings, he put in hours of practice, paying his dues. He soon developed a cult following at the UIC Chicago Circle Campus DJ’ing at dorm room suite house parties. With momentum growing, Jay was able to climb the ranks of the Chicago elite, spinning for and with legends in the music industry, such as DJ Jazzy Jeff.

As his status on the Chicago nightlife scene rose, Jay iL secured highly visible corporate clients. He’s worked with Red Bull USA, Smirnoff, Don Julio, Heineken, Sony, and Sprite.  His work has included spinning at various events as well as participating in competitions. Jay represents Don Julio as a brand influencer, Dj’ing various events for the tequila brand, recently rocking the launch of Don Julio 70, the world’s first Anejo Claro. Jay iL has also taken part in the Heineken music series, spinning at Sony Music events for both J. Cole and Daniel Merriweather. Jay rocked the Smirnoff Masters of the Mix with DJ Scratch and DJ Clue. He is also a Sprite Green Tastemaker, which allowed him to represent the brand during its launch and the opportunity to rock an event with hip-hop legends, De La Soul.

In addition to corporate clients, Jay iL has spun for various celebrities. He’s rocked the birthday celebration for actress Tia Mowry and the album release party for recording artist Jeremih as the featured DJ for Sucka Free, a former weekly event. He also DJ’d an event at Enclave for Wade’s World Weekend, Dwyane Wade’s annual fundraising event in held in Chicago. He has also rocked with Fat Joe at The Shrine and for Kanye West as the host for an event at Soundbar. Additionally, Jay is the back up DJ for Naledge of Kidz N The Hall. He also collaborated with hip-hop blog Fake Shore Drive and Complex Magazine to create the Chicago’s Top 100 Mixtape, and received national exposure DJ’ing on MTV’s TRL NYE special.

As a Chicago nightlife scene veteran, Jay iL currently has residencies at Lumen (Thursdays), 7 Ultra Lounge (Fridays) and Sawtooth (Saturdays). He also has a standing monthly event, TGIFresh, hosted at Tantrik and other venues throughout the city. Jay is dedicated to his craft and his love for music is evident in his musical selection, often times breaking new songs months before they become popular. He has released six mixtapes, featuring both locally and nationally recognized artists. In addition, Jay has been featured in the Chicago Red Eye, Chicago Tribune, and HAS Magazine.

LOCAL CHICAGO DJ APPLIES WINNING FORMULA AT HOME AND ABROAD

With Innovative Video Mixing Technology and International Experience Fused with the Universal Language of Hip-Hop, DJ 33 1/3 Knows How to Rock a Crowd

CHICAGO, IL (January 31, 2011) – Thomas Johnson, known as DJ 33 1/3 in most circles, is a DJ in its truest form. Taking his name from the speed at which vinyl rotates on a turntable is an illustration of his dedication and love of music. However, his connection to music extends beyond passion. Through his experience as a DJ, 33 1/3 has perfected the art of rocking the crowd, be it in Chicago, New York and as far away as Japan.

His abilities as a DJ have proven to be an asset, as he is the DJ many artists and celebrities turn to when they hit Chicago.  DJ 33 1/3 has opened at events for Ludacris, Common, Dwyane Wade, NO ID, KRS-ONE, Busta Rhymes, Nas, Wyclef, Faith Evans, 50 Cent, Twista and Shyne.  In addition to opening for the aforementioned artists, DJ 33 1/3 is the “Show DJ” for hip-hop legend Rakim, a post that he shares with DJ Kid Capri and DJ Tech. He has toured with Rakim in cities throughout the United States and Canada for the last two years.

DJ 33 1/3 also has a strong background in radio.  He has had numerous mixes featured on multiple radio stations and currently does the “Midday Mix” with Loni Swain on WGCI (Clear Channel), Monday-Friday.  The “Midday Mix” can be downloaded from his website  (www.spin33.com) and will soon be available on the WGCI website. He has performed opening duties for various WGCI events, including the recent premiere party for BET;s “The Game” and the WGCI Big Jam concert after party.

With the clubs and airwaves being dominated by the “hits”, a DJ’s individual style is what sets them apart. “I can play the same 20 records that another DJ plays, but when I play them they will sound completely different,” says DJ 33 1/3. “The emotion is different, the reaction will be different. The EXPERIENCE is truly different.”

In addition to his radio presence, he also has international appeal, having performed in the Netherlands, Japan, and London.  During a visit to London, 33 1/3 checked out local hotspots, and quickly booked a gig, which led to other spots during his stay. In Tokyo on a 3-day trip for a gig, the response was so overwhelming that 3 days turned to 3 weeks of guest spots throughout the city. Speaking through the universal language of hip-hop, 33 1/3 wins over foreign crowds; further exemplifying that he understands how music transcends all cultures.

His success does not simply rest on playing great music and rocking the crowd, 33 1/3 has also mastered the art of video mixing.  Incorporating the same mixing and scratching of songs simultaneously with the respective music video, he brings another exciting dynamic into the nightlife experience.
